I%26#039;ve also made the choice to never purchase the skin or fur of animals again. (And I haven%26#039;t for over 2 years.)

I%26#039;ve got these really comfortable sandals that I%26#039;ve had for 6 years. The tops are leather. I believe that throwing them away would be wasteful and disrespectful to the animal that died for them, and I believe that in my care they could last decades. So I%26#039;m thinking of ways to reconcile them with my moral imperative, since a vegan wearing leather is pretty hypocritcal.

What if I carve the words %26quot;never again%26quot; into the front straps (quite visibly) so that I can use them as a discussion piece for what motivated my change? Would this be self-righteous? What if I don%26#039;t preach about them, and simply reply %26quot;what do you think?%26quot; to anyone who asks, and then ask if they would like to learn more?

Wearing leather sandals as a vegan?
I agree throwing them away would be a waste.

I think carving words into would be a step towards preaching and is unnecessary. Fake leather looks like real leathers, so nobody but you will actually know it is real.

And anybody who would challenge you for wearing the shoes is an ******. But if they do an answer of I bought them b4 I was a vegan should suffice, if they persist after that you don%26#039;t want to be acquainted with that person.
Reply:If you already have the leather sandals, I do not see what benefit would come from not wearing them. Additionally, I would only write on them if you would prefer that. Don%26#039;t feel you have some moral responsibility that you have to deface sandals you bought prior to becoming vegan.

Good luck being vegan! :)
Reply:Congratulations on your commitment.

Since you acquired the sandals before you decided to become a vegan, just keep wearing them and don%26#039;t worry about it. What%26#039;s done is done. Adding any sort of message would deface them and come across as arrogant. If someone asks, explain your reasoning. Chances are - hardly anyone will notice as there are so many leather replacements that look real.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think you owe anyone an explanation, but simply saying you acquired them before you made your decision to go vegan should be good enough for everyone who doesn%26#039;t fancy themselves the %26quot;vegan police.%26quot; I have come to the same place as you; after many years of vegetarianism, I have decided that veganism is the path for me. I don%26#039;t see the point in discarding things I already have. I%26#039;m sure many others who have come before us have found the purge necessary. But what%26#039;s done is done. I won%26#039;t buy another leather purse, but the ones I have are serviceable and I%26#039;ll use %26#039;em %26#039;til they%26#039;re done. Toiletries and stuff are another story to me, simply because there%26#039;s less wasted money and less wasted product there.
Reply:I question the verse in the bible that speaks of a land flowing with milk and honey. Any why pray tell do you suppose God , put the domestic animals on the earth if he didn%26#039;t want them to provide sustenance for mankind, and clothing??? and where do feather beds, and wool clothing fit in , and does this apply to leather upholstery in your car,??
Reply:Tell people they are fake. Flat out. Non-vegans won%26#039;t understand and will call you a hypocrite, but really, you already made a statement by using the power of your dollar saying leather is ok, now you know better and won%26#039;t buy it again, but throwing them away won%26#039;t make any statement other than having to buy a new pair.

I had a leather jacket for awhile that I bought before being vegan. My husband, who works for a popular animal rights group told me to put a patch on it that said Vegan. People will never know. You can buy them from Peta.
Reply:You are searching for a way to justify your hypocrisy just because you like your leather sandals. Saying about disrespecting the animal who died, blah, blah, blah is a way of rationalizing your mind to keep them. Your %26quot;cow%26quot; didn%26#039;t die to make your sandals. It died for beef and somebody took the hide to make leathere out of it.

But if you are going to be so high-righteous about your %26quot;veganism%26quot; how about putting yourself to the test ... How about getting rid of those sandals right now. Dump them if you are the self-proclaimed super vegan you are proposinng.

I challenge you not to talk the talk, but walk the walk. Get rid of the sandals.
Reply:Please keep you sandals. You are absolutely right, throwing them out is wasteful %26amp; disrespectful.

I%26#039;ve yet to reconcile how leather is more harmful to animals %26amp; all living beings than synthetics.

The animals you%26#039;re attempting to save will be knee deep in synthetic materials %26amp; breathing carbon emissions if we keep using that chemical made stuff, anyway.

credot

Leather sandals smell how to get rid of it?

I have a pair of leather sandals that i love. I have 3 pair of leather sandals that develop a whitish, kind of greasy-feeling %26quot;bloom%26quot; if I don%26#039;t wear them for a few days. Looks kind of like salt stains. It wipes right off, although when it%26#039;s built up over the winter it takes some rubbing to get rid of. There%26#039;s no odor to it. These are heavier, slide sandals with rubber or synthetic soles; one pair by Dr. Marten, one by Skechers, not sure about the other. They%26#039;re my everyday shoes in warm weather. I live in Michigan and my house is not especially damp or warm; nor do I have any foot problems like excessive perspiration or athlete%26#039;s foot. This doesn%26#039;t happen to other leather footwear... just these sandals. Sure would like to know what this is!

Why do my leather sandals get a white %26quot;bloom%26quot; on them?
It may be due to the leather the sandal is made from

dancing quotes

Can leather sandals be worn in water or to the beach?

I just bought a pair of leather skecher sandals, but my dad isn%26#039;t the biggest fan of them because he says that they aren%26#039;t water sandals or something. Can I wear leather sandals in water or to the beach?

Here%26#039;s a pic of my sandals: http://www.famousfootwear.com/product.as...

Can leather sandals be worn in water or to the beach?
Going barefoot isn%26#039;t going to kill you. Why do people feel the need to wear shoes on the beach? Are you afraid of the sand?
Reply:Water ruins leather. You should listen to your dad more often and stop being so rebellious. He%26#039;s had a lot more experiences than you and just wants the best for you!
Reply:I had some really pretty leather sandals last summer and I broght them to the beach and they got wet. The next day, after they dried out, my feet couldn%26#039;t fit in them anymore because they shrunk. If I were you I wouldn%26#039;t let them get wet if you decide to keep them.
Reply:Those should work fine for the beach, but they look too expensive to go in water. Plastic sandals or flip-flops tend to hold up much better if taken into the water; they can%26#039;t be ruined by the water, and they dry out much more quickly.
Reply:You can wear any shoe you want in water... But leather stretches out when it gets wet and your shoes won%26#039;t fit well anymore... So instead of Skechers you will have Stretchers... lol...

Seriously, they will stretch out of shape and be ruined. They can also shrink if wet and left in the sun... leather is unpredictable at times.. I wouldn%26#039;t take the chance cause Skechers are expensive.. :)
Reply:These should not be allowed to get wet. The leather will eventually get very hard and cracked if you wear them in water. For extra protection, invest in waterproofing spray, which is available at Wal-Mart in either the sporting goods departmente or shoe department. I use this on my good leather purses and shoes to protect them from rain. Works quite well. Nice sandals!
Reply:You can, but you have to be aware that leather contracts and expants when in contact with water. It will contract when wet, but as it drys it expands that why it is seasoned for several weeks before being made into a product. It might be better to go buy some cheap rock shoes for water wear.

fashion accessories

Leather Sandals.?

I have a pair of leather sandals that I have for years, I love them, but the problem is the leather is getting really stretched out. is there a way to %26quot;shrink%26quot; the leather so I can continue to wear them? I have tried getting them wet, that didn%26#039;t work. Any other ideas?

Leather Sandals.?
I thought getting leather wet was bad for them, maybe take them to a shoe repair store.
Reply:well don%26#039;t now
Reply:either buy new ones exactly like them or just leave them cuz ur sol
Reply:wet them really good and then dry them it should work
Reply:actually water alone doesn%26#039;t damage leather that much, but if it is hot, it does make the leather feel less soft, shrink and become hardened. so if you really want to shrink them, you have to pour HOT water over them, but be careful not to use too much hot water because once you do this, you can%26#039;t undo it, so use the water little by little so it shrink little by little.

hair care
